“With the recent developments in Iran, this has been an historic week at the United Nations,” explained Ambassador Graham. “The US President chairing a summit of the Security Council and its adoption of a far reaching resolution on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation is extraordinary. Moreover, it is indicative that we are on the road towards a safer planet,” Graham added.

“Nukes are the ultimate environmental issue,” stated Prime Minister Campbell. “They cannot be used without poisoning the earth, and therefore their use is immoral.”

“California Senator Alan Cranston started the Global Security Institute under the premise that nuclear weapons are unworthy of civilization,” stated Jonathan Granoff. “It’s these kinds of programs that are key to furthering the dialog, philosophy and mission that Senator Cranston started just over ten years ago.”

About Prime Minister Kim Campbell

Kim Campbell was the former Prime Minister of Canada, as well as the first female Head of State in North America. Campbell also served as Canada’s Minister of Defense, and as Canada’s Minister of Justice.

About Bob Weir

When the Grateful Dead began to play in 1965, Bob Weir was just 17, so he was naturally treated as “the kid.” Over the years, he grew to the point of being one of rock’s finest and most distinctive rhythm guitarists, and a band stalwart always. He grew up on the Peninsula south of San Francisco, and was glued to a guitar from the time he was 14. One of his earliest influences was a local folkie named Jorma Kaukonen. He first joined in with Garcia in 1964 to form “Mother McCree’s Uptown Jug Champions,” and then was a co-founder of the Warlocks, later the Grateful Dead. As the band grew, he became the co-lead-vocalist with Garcia, and wrote a number of important songs, including “The Other One,” “Sugar Magnolia,” “Playing in the Band,” and “Throwing Stones.” He is married to the former Natascha Muenter, and they have two daughters, Monet and Chloe. His band RatDog is increasingly active.

Ambassador Thomas Graham, Jr. is Chairman of the Board of the Cypress Fund for Peace and Security, a charitable foundation established to provide long-term, reliable support to selected arms control, nonproliferation and conflict resolution NGOs, support PhD programs and carry out other activities in these fields. Internationally known as one of the leading authorities in the field of international arms control and nonproliferation agreements designed to limit and to combat the proliferation of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons, Ambassador Graham has served as a senior U.S. diplomat involved in the negotiation of every major international arms control and non-proliferation agreement for the past 35 years.

About Lili Haydn

Amid a career that has already put her on stage with Jimmy Page and Robert Plant (soloing on Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir), or playing and singing one of her own songs as part of Herbie Hancock’s jazz quintet, Lili Haydn has regularly shared stages with Parliament-Funkadelic (Haydn has often been called by leader George Clinton “the Jimi Hendrix of the violin) and the great Qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and recorded with Tom Petty and Josh Groban. Haydn was even recruited by film composer Hans Zimmer to be the featured solo violin and voice in the final Pirates of the Caribbean. A committed humanitarian and activist, Haydn also performs regularly for various human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Action Center, and has played private concerts for international gatherings of Nobel laureates. Haydn’s song “Children of Babylon” has been adopted by the Global Security Institute to further its message of nuclear nonproliferation.
